EU - natural development path for Moldova - Ambassador of Japan to Chisinau says

Chisinau, 20 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The European Union is a natural development path for the Republic of Moldova. Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama made the statement in an interview given to MOLDPRES State News Agency.

Yoshihiro Katayama said that since July 1981, when he started his diplomatic career in Bucharest, he knew that there was a people, beyond the border with Romania, who spoke the same language. "At that time, I did not have access to this area, but I always had a great interest in the Republic of Moldova. I visited the country for the first time in March 2005, when I worked in Kyiv as an adviser on economic issues. Then I was sent to Chisinau as an observer. I came here with the greatest pleasure, I saw that the Republic of Moldova is a very beautiful country, I really liked the country's capital, which is a very green and beautiful city, then my dream from the beginning of the 80s was fulfilled" , he said.

The official said he was very happy when he was appointed Ambassador of Japan to Chisinau. "During this period, we followed a change from a democratic point of view, which became a priority for the authorities. In terms of Moldova's integration into the European Union, there are already accurate facts, I mean the increase in exports to the EU, which is 2/3 of the total volume. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova received the status of a candidate country for EU accession, the Government worked hard for this. I believe that the European Union is a natural path for the development of Moldova", he said.

Yoshihiro Katayama was appointed Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova in early 2020.
