Moldovan PM to visit Baku

Chisinau, 21 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The perspectives of deepening the commercial and investment cooperation between Moldova and Azerbaijan were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Chisinau Gudsi Dursun oglu Osmanov, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The officials welcomed the initiative to organize the meeting of the Moldovan-Azeri intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, due in Baku on 10-12 October. In the same period, a bilateral Businessmen's Forum will be held, and investment opportunities in the country will be presented. The events will coincide with the visit of Gavrilița to Baku, in this context organizational aspects of the trip will also be discussed.
"Despite all the challenges, the Republic of Moldova remains a favorite destination for foreign investors. Recently, we managed to attract investment projects from countries such as Belgium, Holland, Turkey, USA, Germany, Lithuania, Great Britain. We want to strengthen investment cooperation with the business environment of Azerbaijan", Gavrilița said.
Also, the official expressed Moldova's interest in strengthening cooperation in the energy sector, the possibility to import natural gas from Azerbaijan was considered. The measure is provided for in the updated version of the National Energy Strategy.
Currently, the Republic of Moldova has signed about 50 agreements with Azerbaijan in various sectors of cooperation.
