Moldova proposes CARBON film for Oscar awards

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s selection committee has submitted the film, CARBON, directed by Ion Bors, to the Oscar awards 2023, at the category, The Best International Film. The decision was taken just on the day when the world premiere of the movie, CARBON, took place, when it was screened at the San Sebastian (Spain) International Film Festival.

This year, Moldova’s selection committee was made up of 17 members, among whom film directors Vlad Druc and Andrei Dumbraveanu, producer Virgil Margineanu, actor Petru Hadarca and composer Eugen Doga.    

The CARBON team learned the news about the submission for the Oscar awards during the San Sebastian International Film Festival, where the world premiere of the movie will take place, before hundreds of representatives of the cinematographic industry from all over the world. ‘’We feel honoured that we have been selected. We did not even imagine when we initiated the project, that this was possible. New goals appeared in the CARBON project and namely to focus on the fulfillment of all requirements imposed by the Oscar committee to reach the festival,’’ Ion Bors said.     

The movies, La limita de jos a cerului (At the lower limit of the heaven) (2014), directed by Igor Cobileanski, and Toți copiii Domnului (All children of the Lord) (2013), directed by Adrian Popovici, were among the films Moldova has earlier submitted to Oscar.      

The 95th edition of the Oscar awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre from Ovation Hollywood on 12 March 2023. The short list of nominations will be published on 21 December this year and those four final nominations will be announced on 24 January next year. The national premiere of the CARBON film will take place at the Nicolae Sulac National Palace on 4 October. Starting from 6 October, this film will be screened at movie theatres.
