Japan donated batch of medical equipment to Oncology Institute

Chisinau, 23 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- A batch of medicines and medical equipment was donated to the Oncology Institute today. The International Organization for Migration provided the support as part of the emergency humanitarian assistance in Ukraine and neighboring countries, offered by the Japanese government.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Health Ion Prisăcaru thanked the Government of Japan and the Japanese people for their support. "During this complicated period, we have several joint projects with partners in Japan, who have provided medicines and medical equipment for other hospitals in the country as well. At the same time, we also thank the international organizations for the help including through the expertise provided by foreign experts", said Ion Prisăcaru.

For his part, Oncology Institute director Ruslan Baltaga thanked on behalf of the entire collective for the donation.

At the same time, Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama said that following the unjustified invasion of Russia in Ukraine, the Government and the Moldovan people showed an impressive solidarity. "Citizens of the country provided shelter for the women and children of Ukraine, this fact impresses. That's why we decided to come up with this support. We want the donated medicines and medical equipment to be effectively used by the Moldovan people and the Ukrainian citizens here," Yoshihiro Katayama said.

Currently, over 400 patients from Ukraine benefit from treatment at the Oncology Institute in the capital.

The value of the batch of medicines and medical equipment donated by the Government of Japan is 230 thousand US dollars.
