Monument to victims of Stalinist deportations, bust to poet Andrei Ciurunga to be built in Cahul

Chisinau, 23 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- A monument to the victims of the Stalinist deportations will be installed in Cahul municipality. It will be built at the intersection of Ștefan cel Mare and Ioan Vodă cel Cumplit streets. The government approved a decision on the matter at today's meeting in Cahul, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Following the IUG (South) operation, 1,183 families were deported, of which 243 families come from Cahul district.

The government also ruled out to install the bust to poet Andrei Ciurunga on the Alley of Personalities in Cahul, his hometown. Andrei Ciurunga, also known as Robert Cahuleanu, is a reference name in Romanian literature - poet, memorialist, martyr of the prisons of the Romanian communist dictatorial regime. The project of the bust will be approved by the Ministry of Culture.
