Chisinau, 27 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The National Library of Moldova (BNM) is the institution that holds many books that must be preserved for future generations, and this can be achieved through digitization.
Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama made the statement in an interview given to MOLDPRES State News Agency.
One of the most valuable cultural heritage projects initiated with the support of Japan is the digitization of the National Library, for which 400 thousand US dollars have been allocated. "The Republic of Moldova has a vast culture, and the National Library of Moldova is the institution that holds many books, documents and other materials that must be preserved for future generations. This cultural wealth can be saved through digitization. The decision to provide this equipment for the creation of a Digitization Center within the library was discussed with colleagues from the Government," said Yoshihiro Katayama.
The center's opening ceremony took place on February 23, Japan's National Day. "The equipment has already been installed and currently the specialists are working on copying the materials. At the same time, in this way, teachers and children from other localities, not only from Chisinau, will have easy access to them", said the ambassador.
Yoshihiro Katayama was appointed Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova in early 2020.
