Japan willing to help Moldova attract foreign investments

Chisinau, 27 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița met today with Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Chairman Nobuhiko Sasaki in Tokyo, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The sides approached issues on evolution of economic relations between the two states and considered the opportunities to expand commercial activities, noting the importance of strategic investments for the economic growth and the creation of well-paid jobs.

Gavrilita appreciated the assistance offered by the Japanese Government, and expressed Chisinau authorities' willingness to expand investment cooperation to modernize the country and develop a market economy based on common values, such as free competition.

"We already have successful stories of Japanese investments on the Moldovan market, but we want to fully explore the potential of collaboration with Japanese companies. We remain focused further on creating a predictable business environment, favorable to investments and establishing mutually beneficial relations between business associations in our countries", Gavrilița said.

The officials broached the facilitation of imports of Moldovan products on the Japanese market and the possibility of granting by the Republic of Moldova a preferential regime for the import of agro-food products with high potential on the Japanese market, especially wines.

Sasaki said that JETRO is open to help Moldova achieve the goal of increasing the number of investors. At the same time, the JETRO office in Romania is ready to support Chisinau government's view and actions taken for developing and attracting foreign investment.

They also discussed the energy crisis, which has a strong impact at the global level – the energy price also increased in Japan. In this context, Moldova's effort to diversify energy resources was appreciated, as the Japanese side is also doing.

Gavrilița is visiting Tokyo on 26-28 September to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
