Eugene Ionesco National Theater signed memorandum with company from Japan

Chisinau, Oct. 3 /MOLDPRES/- A signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Collaboration between the Eugene Ionesco National Theater (TEI) from Chisinau and the Hachimaru Gekidan Theater Company (1980) from the Japanese capital has been recently held at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Tokyo, in the presence of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Japan Dumitru Socolan.
TEI director Petru Vutcarau said that the Memorandum was signed for a five - year - period, with the possibility to be extended, and sees the joint implementation of several theatrical and cultural projects, exchanges of experience and tours between the two theaters, co-productions, festivals and other events. On behalf of the Hachimaru Ghekidan Company, the document was signed by its director, Yoshiyuki Shibata.
Attending the event were Yoshinori Yagi (Kyodo News Agency), Inoue Hideki (Asahi Shimbun newspaper), Yoshihiro Ehara, editor of the Japanese magazine Teatro, representatives of the Hachimaru Ghekidan Company (1980). After the ceremony, a press conference was held where the situation of theaters in the Republic of Moldova and Japan was discussed, the importance of collaboration and cultural exchanges between our countries, the role of culture and especially theater in the context of the current geopolitical situation and Russia's war against Ukraine.
