Leova, Edineț, Străseni districts to benefit from support for development of public services

Chisinau, Oct. 5 /MOLDPRES/- The districts of Leova, Edineț and Străseni will benefit from support for the development of public services and the improvement of the quality of life of citizens. The support is granted within the EU4Moldova: Local Communities program, which was launched today in Chisinau.

The program is financed and implemented by the European Union, Germany, Austria and Poland. It aims to improve the quality of life in rural communities and mitigate the economic and social consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Secretary General of the Government Dumitru Udrea said that the European Union is a reliable partner in the development of the Republic of Moldova. "The EU states support the reforms carried out in our country. Thus, over the years we have benefited from numerous projects implemented with their support. The program launched today is a complex one and comes with an assistance package to improve the quality of life of citizens", he said.

The initiative sees actions for the development of the infrastructure, the improvement of local public services, the capacities of writing project proposals to obtain funding sources. It promotes the participation of women in public structures. At the same time, the water supply and sewage service, waste collection will be developed. Investments will also be made in business development and job creation.

For his part, the head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks said that the project focuses on the development of rural areas. "We want to bring prosperity to rural communities where young people can see a future. It is a brave project, in which each development partner will bring expertise, for which I thank them", Jānis Mažeiks said.

The program will be implemented by 2025. It will improve access to local public services for 9,000 people.
