Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/ - The emergency state might be extended by another 60 days in Moldova as of 7 October 2022. A decision to this end was approved at the today’s cabinet meeting, based on a ruling by the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE). The document is to be submitted to parliament for approval, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The need to prolong the emergency state is prompted by the persistent risks and threats which regard the national security, as well as Moldova’s supply with energy resources for the cold period of the year.
The latest developments of the situation in the region, triggered by the unfolding of the war in Ukraine, generate, in continuation, vulnerabilities to the security of Moldova’s state border. Among the principal threats which Moldova can face on the next period, there are: limiting or even the cessation of the supply of energy resources; the exponential increase in their prices; extension of the war-hit regions closer to Moldova’s borders; use of nuclear weapons regionally and globally, increase in the flow of refugees from Ukraine, as well as the consequences triggered by the partial mobilization announced by Russia.
