Petrol, diesel prices to increase

Chisinau, Oct. 6 /MOLDPRES/- For 7 October the following maximum retail prices of the main standard petroleum products were set: COR 95 petrol – 24.43 lei/liter (+ 0.16 lei); diesel – 26.06 lei/liter (+ 0.35 lei), according to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE).

The agency explained that the increases come after a sudden increase in Platts quotes for petrol and diesel, which began a day before the meeting in Vienna of the representatives of the OPEC+ countries, during which it was to decide on reducing global oil production. However, the OPEC+ decision that followed, to reduce oil production by two million barrels/day, had the effect of an immediate increase in oil prices, which reached the highest level in the last three weeks, with Brent be traded at $93.37/barrel.

"Just in the last two sessions, Platts quotes for diesel have increased by about $150/ton, and for petrol by about $50/ton," the cited source said. In total, in the interval of the last 14 days used by ANRE to calculate the maximum prices, the quotations increased by 14.5% for diesel and by 9% for petrol.

Given that the Republic of Moldova does not have its own production and imports 100% of the oil products needed from outside the country, fluctuations in the international stock markets are inevitably reflected in the level of prices at the pump for end consumers, said the National Agency for Energy Regulation.
