Chisinau, Oct. 7 /MOLDPRES/- The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announced today the completion of conservation works for the synagogue and church in Rașcov, on the left bank of the Dniester. It was possible due to the support of the EU Confidence-Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP Moldova.
"Such constructions no longer exist in Moldova. The stone decoration has been preserved, which proves to us that it was built in the baroque and rococo styles. The building is remarkable and has many visitors", says Olga Slivca, director of the museum in Rașcov.
Once the project is completed, local public authorities are making plans to increase the flow of tourists to Rașcov.
"With the help of tourism, we will develop the locality's infrastructure, and that is the most important thing. Demand also generates supply. We hope that small hostels or guesthouses will open and this will encourage young people to stay in the town", Rașcov mayor Oleg Bersadschii said.
The synagogue and the church in Rașcov are part of the ten cultural-historical objectives on both banks of the Dniester, selected for restoration and conservation within the cultural heritage component of the EU Confidence- Building Measures Programme. It contributes to the strengthening of trust between the inhabitants of the two banks of the Dniester river, through their involvement in common development projects.
