Chisinau, Oct. 11 /MOLDPRES/- Assessment of the effects of this year's drought on the agricultural sector in Moldova will be carried out by a team of national and international experts, with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The statement was made at yesterday's meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA).
For three weeks, the evaluators will go to the districts of the country, to hold discussions with agricultural producers, representatives of local public authorities and other relevant institutions.
"The purpose of the exercise is to analyze the methodology for determining damage to agricultural crops, as well as to assess the impact, extent and degree of intensity of this year's drought on agricultural crop lands. Later, based on the collected data, by mid-November, the results will be reported and the experts' recommendations will be communicated," MAIA said.
According to minister Vladimir Bolea, the institution he leads is interested in the results of the evaluation, as the authorities aim to minimize the impact of the drought on agricultural and economic activities. At the same time, the recommendations of the expert team will be useful in the process of developing the agricultural sector and drawing up national subsidy policies, the official summarized.
