Rescuers carry out campaign of preventing intoxications with carbon dioxide in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) carries out a campaign of prevention of intoxications with carbon dioxide as a result of the process of wine’s fermentation.    

Contacted by MOLDPRES, a representative of the Inspectorate, Eduard Ambrosii, said the action took place all over Moldova. ‘’IGSU employees go to households, in order inform citizens about the security measures during the preparation of wine. Rescuers warn that the carbon dioxide emanated following the fermentation process is a toxic substance, without smell and colour and its inhalation can become fatal for people in the case of long-lasting presence in closed and unaired rooms,’’ Ambrosii said.  

Rescuers recommend that the rooms where wine is fermenting should be endowed with proper ventilation and often aired. ‘’Also, to verify the concentration of oxygen in cellars and basements, it is necessary to light a candle. If it is extinguished, the person must not enter the room, as the quantity of oxygen is small. The lack of oxygen triggers giddiness and the person can faint. In this case, it is recommended that the person is taken out of the room and the 112 Service should be called for the first medical aid. At the same time, cellars and basements are recommended to be well-aired,’’ the IGSU representative said.      

The campaign of prevention of cases of intoxication with carbon dioxide  will last during the entire period of harvesting and fermentation of  grapes.   

According to IGSU, in 2021, a person suffered in the wake of intoxication with carbon dioxide.
