Moldova is a country open for investments, Moldovan PM says in Baku

Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, on an official visit to Baku, met Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov today. The sides exchanged opinions on the development of the Moldovan-Azeri commercial and economic relations, with emphasis on the attraction of investments, increase in the volume of trade, as well as on perspectives of cooperation in the energy sector, in the context of the challenges faced by Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department as reported.    

The Moldovan PM highlighted the positive dynamic of the Moldovan-Azeri ties on the last period, proved through concrete deeds and decisions. Natalia Gavrilita welcomed the holding, after a ten-year break, of a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation between Moldova and Azerbaijan, as well as the carrying out of the earlier agreements on the supply of fertilizers to the Moldovan market and the providing of 300 transport authorizations.   

The prime minister said that the attraction of foreign investments stayed a priority for the Moldovan authorities. In the context, she stressed the advantages provided by the Free Economic Zones and Industrial Parks from Moldova. The PM noted that the Azeri investments would play an important role in such sectors as agricultural processing, energy efficiency, IT, logistics and transport. Natalia Gavrilita also said that there was potential for extending the commercial relations, taking into account the categories of products sold in the two countries.     

„We are grateful for the warm reception. The meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Alyev gave the tone of our visit here. As a matter of fact, I noticed openness for dialogue in each Azeri institution. This is a sign of friendship and of the fact that we must strengthen the bilateral cooperation. Moldova remains, also, an open and attractive country for Azeri investors and those who rule to invest and create jobs for our citizens will enjoy every support of the government,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.       

The officials explored possibilities of boosting the commercial relations between the two states and the Azeri side showed interest in the agricultural sector. 

„I want to thank Moldova for the excellent cooperation which we have managed to reestablish between our countries. The dialogue which we had with your colleagues on the last period has already yielded fruits, especially as regards the sale of fertilizers. We are interested in the cooperation for the sale of agricultural products from Moldova, as well as in the exchange of experience in such sectors as vine-growing and wine-making industry,’’ Mikayil Jabbarov stressed.    

Presently, 115 Azeri enterprises are registered in Moldova, with an overall volume of investments of 35.7 million lei. At the same time, the bilateral commerce is growing. Moldova exports wine and agricultural products, clothes, footwear and services to Azerbaijan and imports energy products and consumer goods.
