Moldovan electoral body unveils preliminary results of new local elections

Chisinau, Oct. 17 /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) presented the preliminary results of the new local elections held on October 16 in Sălcuta, Ialpujeni and Braniște localities.
According to the CEC, in Sălcuța, Căușeni district, the most votes were obtained by Maria Ciomîrtan (Action and Solidarity Party) - 27.51%, followed by Mihail Znacovean (Dignity and Truth Platform) - 8.18%.
At the same time, in Ialpujeni, Cimișlia district, the most votes were obtained by Vitalie Burduh (Party of Socialists of Moldova) - 50.63%, followed by Constantin Savanu (Action and Solidarity Party) - 49.37%.
Also, in Braniște village, Râșcani district, the most votes were obtained by Veaceslav Popa (Democratic Party of Moldova) - 44.66%, followed by Daniela Coltun (Action and Solidarity Party) - 28.02%.
According to the Electoral Code, the candidate for the position of mayor is considered elected if he received more than half of the validly cast votes of the voters who participated in the poll. If no candidate meets this condition, a second round of voting will be held within two weeks with two candidates who received the highest number of votes in the first round of voting.
