Three men to be investigated for smuggling stolen cars from EU

Chisinau, Oct. 17 /MOLDPRES/- The Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) said today it sent the file of three men accused of smuggling 23 stolen cars from the European Union to court.
According to the PCCOCS, at the request of the prosecutors, the seizure of assets over 1.3 million lei (about 68 thousand euros) was ordered. The three are from Chisinau and Hâncești and are between 23 and 45 years old. They fraudulently introduced means of transport stolen from the EU into the country, without paying import duties, with their subsequent dismantling or offering for rent.
The criminal investigation also continues with other persons, including those from outside the Republic of Moldova, the punishment provided by law for this act being deprivation of liberty for a period of four to 10 years.
