Former head of Railway of Moldova to be extradited

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - The former head of the Railway of Moldova (CFM), Iurie Topala, will be extradited to Moldova. The Belgian authorities today informed the Moldovan law-enforcement bodies on the acceptance of his extradition.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS), Iurie Topala is prosecuted under the Criminal Code in a file titled, Embezzlement of CFM’s Heritage. Topala was put on a wanted list in November 2021, at a request by the Centru Police Inspectorate of the Chisinau city and prosecutors, in order to be arrested and extradited through Interpol channels.
The former CFM head was detained on the Gosselies - Charleroi Airport from Belgium on 11 January 2022. In several days, Iurie Topala is to be sent to the authorities from Moldova.
Iurie Topala is suspected of swindle in particularly large amounts and embezzlement of alien wealth. Topala acted as CFM’s head during 2015-2019.
