Cases of undeclared money at Chisinau International Airport increased by 200%

Chisinau, Nov. 3 /MOLDPRES/- In the first ten months of the year, cases of undeclared money at Chisinau International Airport increased by 200%.
According to the Border Police, law enforcement officers found: 695,709 US dollars, 435,080 euros, 50,000 shekels, 3.1 million hryvnias and 20,000 pounds.
In the 22 cases of illicit money trafficking, 12 citizens of Ukraine, three Moldovans, two citizens of the Russian Federation, two people from Romania, two from Azerbaijan and one citizen of Tajikistan, Armenia and Turkey were documented. Undeclared money was found after scanning hand luggage.
The border police urge citizens who are going to transport money exceeding the value threshold of 10,000 euros to declare the currency values in writing to the customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova. Otherwise, the persons are subject to misdemeanor or criminal penalties, and the undeclared difference may be confiscated.
