MPs made amendments to Audiovisual Media Services Code

Chisinau, Nov. 3 /MOLDPRES/- At today's plenary meeting, MPs made amendments to the Audiovisual Media Services Code.

The document aims to ensure the predictability and clarity of the provisions of the Audiovisual Media Services Code, to avoid different interpretations and uneven application of legal norms, as well as to adjust the existing regulatory framework to current realities.

Among the provisions of the document is the increase of the maximum audience hours for television services. According to the authors, the amendment will contribute to the strict observance of the weight of local programs and, at the same time to carrying out an attractive program grid for the public.

Also, media service providers could be obliged to transmit local audiovisual programs in Romanian in proportion to at least 80 percent of the total programs produced. An exception will be made only by media providers whose audiovisual media services are intended for ethnic minorities in administrative-territorial units in which an ethnic minority represents a majority share and who have the obligation to transmit local audiovisual programs in a proportion of at least 25% in Romanian, as well as self-produced audiovisual programs in the language of the respective minority.
