The discussions were focused on the bilateral cooperation, the security risks in the region and the reforms’ agenda. The head of state stressed that the Moldovan authorities had taken seriously the commitments of country candidate for the European Union and worked to fulfill the conditions put by the European Commission. Maia Sandu thanked for the support provided for Moldova to advance on the European way, noting that the leadership relied on a wider support when Spain will hold the EU Presidency as of July 2023.
The head of state expressed gratitude to the Spanish partners for the assistance provided to manage the refugees’ crisis in last spring, stressing that Russia’s war against Ukraine has seriously hit the economic and energy situation.
President Maia Sandu said that a large number of Moldovan citizens had settled for good or temporarily left for Spain, to work or study. Thus, we want much closer bilateral relations, in more sectors, especially commercial ones, through attracting Spanish investors, including in the energy sector, given that Spain gets almost 50 per cent of its energy produced from renewable sources.
