Chisinau, Nov. 17 /MOLDPRES/- MPs voted today to improve the mechanism for ensuring the rights of victims in the case of crimes related to sexual life and family violence.
The project aims to strengthen the rights of victims of family violence crimes and crimes that threaten sexual freedom and inviolability, by adapting the domestic regulatory framework to international standards and practices.
Thus, the victims will be able to give explanations in friendly conditions, in the absence of the suspected person. At the same time, their right to privacy and the protection of their personal image will be ensured, they will benefit from medical, medico-legal services, post-traumatic psychological assistance and counseling for physical and psychosocial recovery.
At the same time, the Criminal Code was amended. Thus, the removal of criminal liability as a result of the victim's reconciliation with the offender will not be admitted. Therefore, law enforcement agencies will need to proactively investigate the potential offense to gather evidence and ensure that prosecution can be conducted, even if the alleged victim has withdrawn their statements or complaint.
