Chisinau, Nov. 17 /MOLDPRES/- MEP Siegfried Muresan said today he sent a letter to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, which he co-signed with 106 other MEPs, in which he requested a bilateral agreement for the elimination of roaming charges between the European Union and Republic of Moldova.
In recent years, over 2.4 million citizens from the Republic of Moldova have traveled over nine million times to the EU. "The elimination of roaming charges must be a step that will bring a concrete and immediate advantage to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, as well as EU citizens traveling to Moldova. At the beginning of the year, Romania and Moldova eliminated roaming charges. The bilateral agreement with the EU will eliminate roaming charges with all European Union countries," Mureșan said.
He added that our country is a candidate country for the European Union which "makes impressive progress in implementing the reforms necessary for European integration - although it is constantly blackmailed for this by the Russian Federation".
"The agreement on the elimination of roaming charges will be a new strong signal regarding the continuation of the European integration of the Republic of Moldova", Mureșan said.
