Chisinau-based Oncological Institute to receive new apparatus for radiation treatment

Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Health Ministry today informed that it prepared the purchasing of a new modern apparatus for radiation treatment, with the first one bought in last February.   

The new apparatus make the cancer patients benefit from more efficient treatment, with less secondary effects for the organism. Presently, at the Radiation Oncology Department, where the linear accelerator was set in early 2022, about 70 patients make radiotherapy sessions daily.   

Taking into account that the needs of radiation treatment are much bigger than the equipment can cover, the Health Ministry said it would buy another linear accelerator.   

„The current apparatus was bought by the Sandu Government in 2019 and we set it in the beginning of the 2022 year. Yet, this is insufficient, as many patients are waiting for treatment. We have identified the sum needed to purchase and bring another apparatus of this kind in a record time. The cost of one linear accelerator reaches about 4 million euros. We found partners willing to help us. For us, at the Ministry, it is quite important to bring qualitative medical services as close to patients as  possible,’’ Health Minister Ala Nemerenco said.

According to data by the Oncological Institute, over 700 people have been treated with the help of the linear accelerator bought this year, most of whom with brain cancer, in the neck’s area, breast cancer.
