Moldovan head of state meets President of French National Assembly

Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu had a meeting with President of the National Assembly of France Yaël Braun-Pivet, as well as a group of MPs of the French legislative body in Paris today. The discussion was focused on the present situation in Moldova and the bilateral cooperation, the presidential press service has reported.   

The head of state said that, because of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Moldova had been hit by more crises and the residents and the economy felt the impact of the energy crisis most of all. In the context, the Moldovan president reiterated the importance of the European support and of the EU member states, in order to resist this crisis and not allow it to destabilize Moldova.  

Maia Sandu thanked for the support by the members of the French parliament for Moldova’s European integration, especially for the getting of the status of country candidate for EU. Also, the Moldovan head of state said she relied on the backing of France in the carrying out of Moldova’s agenda of reforms and in the recovery of the assets stolen from the state. The Moldovan president also voiced hope for the boosting of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, including that Mrs. Yaël Braun-Pivet and her colleagues would pay a visit to Moldova.     

The head of state also highlighted the importance to foster the economic cooperation and increase French investments in Moldova, in order to be able to develop new businesses and create new jobs. Also, the Moldovan president expressed hope for the as soon as possible ratification by France of the agreement on the avoidance of double taxation, which will be for the benefit of both states.
