Moldovan president says Moldova to be able to overcome next winter only with partners' support

Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/ - The next winter months will test Moldova’s resilience just on the line and the crises will be able to be overcome only with the support of the country’s partners. President Maia Sandu today made statements to this effect at the third issue of the Moldova Support Platform, held in Paris, France.  

In her speech, the head of state stressed that Moldova was facing a dramatic energy crisis, a diminishing economy and an extremely high inflation of 35 per cent. ‘’All these factors seriously hit the households and enterprises. Our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will be by 8 per cent lower against the previsions from before the starting of the war. We prepare for a tough winter. Moldova is facing an acute energy crisis. The war endangers the supply of electric energy and gas. We are not sure that we can find enough volumes, in order to heat and light our homes. And even if we manage – the prices are non-accessible for our citizens and economy. I know that the entire Europe pays a quite high price for energy. Yet, the same prices have a much devastating impact on our country and citizens,’’ Maia Sandu said.   

The Moldovan president thanked the partner countries for solidarity and commitments of support. ‘’I am grateful to our friends, who have already promised their support, to help us manage our multiple crises. The winter will be difficult and the next years will not be easy. For Ukraine. For Moldova. For Europe. This winter, we must spend more on compensations specific for the household consumers, in order to attenuate the high prices for energy. Similarly, anti-crisis measures were enforced for backing the enterprises. Therefore, your important assistance will be vital in the next months,’’ Maia Sandu said.      

The head of state gave assurances that ‘’the government will continue the reforms, advancing on the European integration way and consolidating the energy resilience.’’

The Moldova Support Platform was launched by France, Germany and Romania, and other countries and organizations joined it, in order to help Moldova during crisis. The first two editions took place in Berlin and Bucharest. The next meeting of the platform will be held in Chisinau next year.
