Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today participated in a festive event dedicated to the Day of the Agriculture and Processing Industry Employee, organized by the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In her congratulatory speech, the PM expressed gratitude to those who had embraced the noble profession of farmer and who, despite all current challenges, prove professionalism, resilience, flexibility and diligence, generating remarkable results.

„Farmers are the ones who bring the bread to tables, those who create value in our economy and the ones who provide jobs to a lot of people from villages and cities. This year has showed us, more than ever, how vulnerable the food security globally can be, as well as how important is for us to have strong native agricultural producers, capable to supply the domestic market. Equally important is that the producers have capacity and instruments needed, in order to quickly re-orient themselves, in the conditions of the interruption of the supply chains and loss of the classical sales markets from outside the country,’’ the prime minister said.

Also, Natalia Gavrilita referred to the anti-crisis measures undertaken by the cabinet, in order to help farmers face the problems triggered by the war and the natural calamities. ‘’We ruled to fully compensate the excise duty on diesel used in 2022 by the micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, including the animal husbandry farms, and at the level of the Commission for Emergency Situations, we ruled to postpone the payment of the land lax by two months,’’ the PM noted.

The prime minister also touched upon the actions means to develop the agricultural sector, so that it becomes attractive for foreign investors. ‘’Certainly, we have not been contented only with anti-crisis measures, but we also set to ensure the conditions necessary for developing this essential sector for the national economy, which will have to become more competitive, including from the viewpoint of Moldova’s accession to the European Union. Despite the limited resources, we have managed to increase the subsidization fund for agriculture by almost 60 per cent. Moreover, we were consistent in our commitment to reduce the bureaucracy, by implementing a string of actions,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

Since 1994, the Day of the Agriculture and Processing Industry Employee has been marked annually in late November.
