Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meeting with Swedish counterpart

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Sweden Tobias Billström, at the headquarters of the Swedish Foreign Affairs Ministry in Stockholm, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
Given that Sweden will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union starting from 1 January 2023, the officials referred to the priorities on the agenda of the Swedish presidency, the firm support by Sweden of Moldova’s course of accession to EU, including on the assessment of the progress of comprehensive reforms initiated by the authorities based on the action plan for the implementation of those nine recommendations formulated by the European Commission.
„I also discussed the organization by Moldova next year of the Summit of the European Political Community and received assurances by the Swedish for concrete support in its good carrying out.
I also appreciated the Swedish government’s contribution worth 160 million Swedish krona (about 14.5 million euros), announced as commitment within the Moldova Support Platform in Paris. We will strengthen along with the partners with Sweden the cooperation in the security and domestic affairs sector; will consolidate the Interior Ministry’s institutional capacities, through supply with modernized equipment, trainings, including exchange of good practices on the cyber dimension.
We also discussed the security situation in the region, Russia’s unprovoked war against Ukraine and the dramatic consequences on Moldova, including in the energy sector,’’ the Moldovan official said at the end of the meeting.
