Moldovan president meets International Monetary Fund management

Chisinau, Dec. 6 /MOLDPRES/- On a visit to Washington, President Maia Sandu met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund. The head of state pointed out the importance of cooperation with the IMF to mitigate the economic and social consequences caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the presidential press service has reported.
Maia Sandu said that currently the Republic of Moldova is going through the most severe energy crisis since its existence, and the authorities aim to help people and businesses cope with high energy prices. There is a need for programs that increase the resilience of the sector and contribute to the diversification of energy sources. Kristalina Georgieva said that the IMF remains open to collaboration with Moldova and is ready to increase assistance to help overcome the current crisis.
Maia Sandu pays a visit to the USA on 5-7 December.
