Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ - The deepening of the Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation in the energy and economic sectors, continuity of the joint projects in the transport and infrastructure sectors, both states’ visions as to the successful implementation of the European agenda were the main subjects considered at a meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and her Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal, held in Kiev today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
During discussions, Natalia Gavrilita expressed sincere support to the Ukrainian nation, including the citizens who had taken refuge in Moldova and reiterated the latter’s support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. ‘’We admire the strength and resistance of the Ukrainian people every day. We pity every innocent life lost in this unjust war. We are fully solidary with the Ukrainian people and we will provide, in continuation, the needed assistance to those over 85,000 citizens of Ukraine who remain in Moldova,’’ PM Gavrilita said.
The officials referred to the energy crisis, which hit both Ukraine and Moldova. The energy infrastructure of Ukraine is damaged in the wake of Russian bombardments and quick solutions are necessary, in order to supply the residents of both states with energy resources.
Also, the prime ministers from Chisinau and Kiev stressed the need to extend the cross-border commerce and to continue the joint projects of transport’s connectivity. In the context, the officials pointed out the current launch of the Basarabeasca-Berezino railway segment and the Kiev-Chisinau passenger train, which will contribute to the stimulation of the commercial and economic relations and will facilitate the safe movement of citizens from both countries.
„We believe that the joint infrastructure projects will boost the bilateral trade and will favour the export of our products to EU markets. Thus, a sustainable mechanism will be created for ensuring the food security both in Moldova and in Ukraine, as well as regionally,’’ Prime Minister Gavrilita said.
At the meeting, the two PMs signed an agreement on cooperation in the higher education field for a five-year term. The document envisages the annual providing, based on reciprocity, of free of charge degree, master’s and doctor’s scholarships, organization of trainings, seminars, training and specialization probationaries for students and teachers from Moldova and Ukraine. The sides also agreed on cooperating in the higher education sector through the working out of joint projects within projects of the European Union, Council of Europe, United Nations Organization, UNESCO and other international organizations.
The meeting took place in the context of a working visit to Kiev by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, during which the PM visited the towns of Bucha and Irpin, destroyed and ravaged in the wake of Russian attacks against Ukraine.
