Moldovan president has meeting with U.S. Secretary of Energy

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has met Secretary of Energy of the United States Jennifer Granholm. The discussion was focused on the severe energy crisis Moldova was going through and the way the USA can help the country overcome it, the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state said that Russia’s war against Ukraine had a major impact on Moldova’s energy security, being reflected in high prices for energy, as well as in the limiting of the access to energy resources. At the same time, President Maia Sandu said that, for Moldova, the energy independence meant the preservation of democracy and the country’s affiliation with the free world, especially in the current context marked by the war.
President Maia Sandu thanked for the assistance worth 80 million dollars, announced by the USA for overcoming the crisis. At the same time, the head of state said that the country needed the support of the development partners, in order to build the infrastructure due to ensure the connection to the European energy networks , to diversify the energy sources and develop the renewable energy, as well as to rethink the entire process of production, stocking and consumption of energy. Another strategic goal is the as soon as possible achievement of the neutralization of the carbon dioxide emissions, which is advantageous for the environment and contributes to the ensuring of the energy security.
President Maia Sandu pays a visit to Washington on 5-7 December.
