Three blocks of flats from Balti city of Moldova connected to more efficient heating system

Chisinau, 7 December /MOLDPRES/ - Three blocks of flats from the northern Balti municipality have been connected to a more efficient centralized heating system, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).     

The residents of 123 apartments from the Balti city were connected to a more efficient centralized heating system, which will generate consumption savings of up to 30 per cent. At the same time, they will have access to hot water, which has been lacking in the settlement since 1999. The vertical distribution of thermal energy from three blocks of flats of Balti was changed by the horizontal one, due to the support provided by UNDP and GEF, in partnership with Green City Lab Moldova and North Thermal Electric Power Station (CET Nord), UNDP said today.      

The new system of thermal energy’s distribution gives apartment owners possibility to connect the heating, disconnect it and regulate the level of temperature individually, depending on needs. Each apartment has meter which monitors the consumption, based on which the invoice will be issued.   

The experience of the Balti municipality and the one of Chisinau, where six residential buildings were connected to the horizontal centralized distribution of heating, with the support of UNDP and GEF, can serve as example of good practices in the energy sector, which can bring change and can improve the country’s energy security,’’ the UNDP deputy resident representative in Moldova, Andrea Cuzyova, said.     

UNDP Moldova and GEF allocated about 98,000 dollars for this pilot project from Balti.
