Minimum salary on Moldova to be increased to 4,000 lei

Chisinau, 7 December /MOLDPRES/ - The minimum salary on the country as of 1 January 2023 will be increased up to 4,000 lei for a full working schedule of 169 hours, on average, per one month. The cabinet approved a decision to this end today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The quantum of the minimum salary was reexamined by the cabinet following a preliminary consultation of the employers and trade unions, taking into account the change of the consumer price index, evolution of the average salary on the economy, volume of the Gross Domestic Product, labour productivity, as well as the value of the subsistence minimum.
According to calculations carried out by the Finance Ministry, 285 million lei will be additionally allocated from the state budget for 2023, needed for the payment of the increased minimum salary for the public sector employees, except for the self-managed authorities and public institutions. In their case, the financial needs from the state budget will be assessed after the decisions’s implementation.
Starting from this year, the government unified the minimum salary, which is enforced in the same quantum both in the public sector and in the real one. The value of the minimum salary for 2022 was of 3,500 lei.
