Sewage system in Călăraşi rehabilitated with EU help

Chisinau, 9 Dec. /MOLDPRES/- In Călărași the rehabilitated and expanded aqueduct and sewerage network was inaugurated yesterday, thanks to a project financed by the European Union and implemented by the Center Regional Development Agency (ADR).

"The European Union is with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in increasing access to quality public services at the local level. Through these investments we come to support and protect the environment, or this project is a clear message of support for the Republic of Moldova on its way to development and creating better conditions for a quality life," said Jānis Mažeiks, EU Ambassador to Moldova.

The total value of the project is about 1.5 million euros, of which about 1.4 million euros were offered as a non-refundable grant by the European Union, and almost 174 thousand euros - the contribution of the Călăraşi City Hall. "Thanks to this project, the aqueduct and sewage networks were rehabilitated and expanded in Călărași. Through the 875 new drinking water connections and 234 new connections to the sewage system, 14,000 city residents benefit from improved public services", according to ADR Centru.

"This project makes us confident that things are moving in the right direction, and with the help of the EU and Germany, things can move at a better speed, so that our citizens can benefit from quality services. We are fully committed to continuing the identification and capitalization of resources so that all people, from all regions of the country, can enjoy good living conditions and increased access to quality public services", said Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

The measures to improve water supply services in the city of Călărași were implemented within the project Construction of water supply and sewage infrastructure, as well as energy efficiency in public buildings. The project is financed by the European Union and implemented by the Cooperation Agency International of Germany (GIZ Moldova) in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development The total budget of the project is 39.8 million euros.
