Chisinau, Dec. 21 /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu conveyed a message today welcoming the approval of the financing for the construction works of the bridge that will connect Ungheni city in the Republic of Moldova and Ungheni village in Romania, the presidential press service has reported.
"The Moldovan-Romanian partnership is bearing fruit: the construction of the Ungheni bridge will soon begin. Yesterday, Bucharest authorities announced the approval of financing worth 16.5 million euros for the construction of the road bridge over the Prut, which will unite the two Ungheni localities on the two banks of the river," said Maia Sandu. The bridge will have four lanes and will increase the capacity of international traffic of goods and passengers between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, and the opportunities for economic exchanges between our countries.
It will strengthen Moldova's connection to the European road transport network.
The project will be financed through the Connecting Europe Facility, a EU program in the transport, digital and energy sectors. The works will start in early 2023. The total cost of the project is 33 million euros, which will be completed within 3.5 years.
