Chisinau, Dec. 26 /MOLDPRES/- Possibilities to get preferential credits for the agricultural sector in 2023 to increase food security and improve productivity were discussed by leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and representatives of financial institutions in the country and farmers.

They considered the options for postponing payments on loans granted to agricultural producers, especially those who were affected by this year's drought and the regional crisis. They also discussed establishment of flexible loan repayment programs, the provision of re-crediting and the establishment of lower interest rates for the financial needs of agricultural economic entities.

According to minister Vladimir Bolea, the agricultural sector has an important weight in the national economy, and the solution of farmers' financial problems is imperative.

"The agricultural sector requires permanent investments, and for this reason state institutions and commercial banks must increase accessibility to financial resources. Our attention must be directed towards improving credit conditions, and the financial services provided by commercial banks must become more attractive. In the next period, we will analyze the possibilities of creating effective support mechanisms and strengthening guarantee instruments at the national level that could be developed for the benefit of small agricultural enterprises, in order to facilitate access to financing", the official said.
