Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - A legislative initiative, which provides for the guaranteed right to Moldova’s citizenship for each child born in Moldova, was considered by the parliament’s commission for national security, defence and public order today.
The draft provides for the amendment of the Law on Moldova’s citizenship, in order to exclude the phrase which sees that the children born in Moldova can get the latter’s citizenship, only if, at the moment of birth, at least one of the parents holds right to stay, benefits from international protection or is recognized as stateless person by the competent authorities. By excluding this provision, the draft has the goal of complying the legal norm to the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Status of Stateless People, UN Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness and Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The legislative initiative will be discussed in the first reading in the parliament’s plenum.
