Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/ - The present economic and security challenges, the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on the European states, as well as measures to overcome the global economic crisis have been discussed at a meeting of the parliamentary group of the Christian Social Union from the German Bundestag in Berlin; attending the event was Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.

In her speech to the German MPs, the Moldovan PM referred to the challenges faced by Moldova since the beginning of the war against Ukraine, as well as to the cabinet’s actions aimed at a European, democratic and prosperous future.

„We received a strong mandate on behalf of Moldova’s citizens to start a process of the country’s deep transformation into a modern European state, with an independent justice, an efficient public administration, with a resilient and sustainable economic development model, as well as with an attractive investment climate. Despite the war, we remain fully involved in this bold agenda of structural reforms, which is in the focus of our strategic goal to become a full-fledged member of the European Union,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said at the event.

Also, the PM touched upon the bad economic consequences of Russia’s energy blackmail, which reduced the quantities of natural gas delivered to Moldova, as well as led to the significant increase in the price for energy resources. The government quickly intervened with actions needed for ensuring the energy security, through measures of compensating the prices for energy and natural gas.

„The price for gas, which we had to pay to Gazprom in 2022, increased seven-fold against the year before. Therefore, it is essential for us to take measures, in order to provide compensations for the increase in prices for energy - especially for the most vulnerable segments of our residents. We managed to start the construction of a power line due to connect Moldova’s electricity network to the Romanian one. We also took measures, in order to speed up the use of renewable sources, as well as to enhance the energy efficiency of the public and private buildings,’’ the Moldovan PM also said.

Natalia Gavrilita thanked the MPs present at the meeting, who had backed the additional support committed by Germany for attenuating the energy crisis and the one of refugees and especially for backing Moldova’s European integration.

In another context, Natalia Gavrilita spoke about the reforms underway in the justice sector, comprehensive programmes for digitalization and innovation, as well as the measures of enhancing Moldova’s investment attractiveness. In the context, the PM urged the German business people to analyze Moldova’s investment opportunities.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita is on a working visit to Germany on 6-8 January.
