Journalist Petru Beregoi appointed as director of Moldpres State News Agency

Chisinau, 9 January /MOLDPRES/ - Journalist Petru Beregoi today was appointed as director of the Moldpres State News Agency (AIS Moldpres).    

The new director was introduced to the staff by Government’s Secretary General Igor Talmazan. Petru Beregoi has earlier carried out his activity at the Moldpres News Department. Subsequently, he worked at a private media institution.     

The office of director general of the Public Institution AIS Moldpres remained vacant on 24 May 2022, following the expiration of the mandate of the former director, Andrei Volentir. So far, the institution’s deputy director, Viorel Buzdugan, has acted as interim director.   

The task of the Moldpres Agency is to ensure the production and spread of news, the publication and editing of official acts, inform the public opinion of Moldova and from abroad about the state policy and the current work of Moldova’s public authorities, providing of editorial, poly-graphic and advertising services, production and sale of photo and video materials. Subordinated to parliament at the initial phase, the Moldpres Agency switched to the government’s management in 1994 and became the only authorized editor of Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).     

During the Agency’s work, structural changes came about, the declared goal of which was ‘’to optimize the managerial activity and transform Moldpres into a modern mass media structure, with three principal directions of work: spread of information of wide public interest, the photo report and the editing of the Official Journal.

During years, the institution was led by Dumitru Țâra, Boris Marian, Mihail Belous, Ion Corețchi, Valeriu Reniță, Vlad Darie și Andrei Volentir. In July 2001, Moldpres switched from the subordination of the State Chancellery to the one of Moldova’s government.
