Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - „In the context of the energy crisis which we have been coping with for more than one year, the implementation of energy efficiency projects is a priority of the government. I want to assure you that Moldova stays a reliable partner of the European community in the green energy sector,’’ Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has said at a meeting with Vice President of the European Commission for European Green Deal Frans Timmermans, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.
The PM referred to the situation in the energy sector and the measures undertaken by the Moldovan cabinet to identify alternative sources of energy and natural gas, as well as to limit the dependence on the Russian gas. The discussions were also focused on the consolidation of the knowledge of specialists in the field and turning to good account of European environmental programmes. At the same time, the sides touched upon the need to adjust the environmental legislation and domestic practices of Moldova to EU’s standards and goals.
„At the moment, we have planned more actions with medium- and long-term impact. We focused the efforts on the updating of the strategy of development with low emissions 2030 and the programme on the promotion of the green economy. Also, we put emphasis on the development of a new national plan of waste management, of the environment strategy and the national plan for energy and climate 2030, as part of the commitments taken through the Energy Community Treaty,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
The prime minister reminded that Moldova had joined the LIFE Programme 2021-2027, dedicated to environment and climate changes, noting that the country was set to substantially increase the quota of renewable energy, as well as to ensure a more efficient management of waste.
