Moldovan PM says programme on reform in economy to speed up European integration process

Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni at a today’s meeting discussed the launch of the programme on reform in the economy and the economic and financial dialogue on backing it, the removal of the tariff quotas on Moldovan products on the European market, enforcement of the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement and Moldova’s accession to the Common Transit Convention, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM said that the Moldovan institutions were prepared for getting involved in the carrying out of the structural reforms in the economy, aimed at speeding up the process of joining the single market.
The officials also tackled aspects on the facilitation of trade and conclusion of the Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (ACAA) with EU, which would open new opportunities for Moldovan producers and exporters. The sides also approached the need to adjust the legislation on the Free Economic Zones to the EU acquis.
Natalia Gavrilita informed about the economic situation in Moldova and thanked for the financial support provided to the country, especially on the period of the economic crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine. The prime minister noted that, on the next period, the authorities would fulfill all the country’s commitments for the allocation of the second installment of the macro-financial assistance. At the same time, the Moldovan official stressed the need to update the financial instruments, in order to be in line with the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union.
Paolo Gentiloni reiterated the support and appreciation for Moldova’s resilience, despite the complicated situation, caused by the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. ‘’This is a difficult situation; yet, the fact that you have advanced sufficiently much till the Association Council, that we signed the agreements in the customs and fiscal sectors, that we discuss today about the new programme on macro-financial assistance inspires with confidence in future,’’ the EU Commissioner for Economy said.
