Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/ - The rescuers from Moldova, who have left for Turkey on international mission, continue the searches to save victims of the earthquake.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), on 10 February, the rescuers assessed 10 residential buildings, in order to find people under rubble. Following actions undertaken, they detected two corpses under rubble.
Also on 10 February, the Moldovan rescuers, at a request by colleagues of the USAR-Mexico team, provided support with needed technical equipment (thermal imager, video camera, laser), in order to identify people blocked in a damaged building and save a person. Thus, a joint Mexico-Moldova was set up, and the place of the victim’s location was identified, whose extraction was made by the module from Mexico.
Moldova’s urban search and rescue team today will continue the mission of searching victims of the disaster, as well as will assess the state of damaged buildings, in order to be able to enter the risk zones.
In the first hours after taking over the mission, the Moldovan rescuers managed to save a three-year-old boy who remained blocked in the rubble of an apartment building for four days. IGSU employees recovered the child alive and safe, following more attempts to get under the rubble of the building completely destroyed by the earthquake.
