This January, Moldovans consumed about 50% less natural gas than in 2022

Chisinau, February 14 /MOLDPRES/- The volume of natural gas consumption in January was 96.1 million cubic meters, which is 48.8% less compared to the same period of 2022. At the same time, compared to December 2022, this indicator decreased by 5.7 million cubic meters, or about 5.6%,  according to Moldovagaz company.

"Household consumers, by January 31, 2023, have paid 98.5% of the amounts billed in 2022, which is 0.1% less compared to the same period last year. In the case of non-household consumers (legal entities), the share of transfers was 98.8%, which is 0.1% less than the same period last year. The enterprises in the energy and thermal sector in the country paid their bills in proportion to 95.9%, which is 4 percentage points less compared to the same period last year", indicates Moldovagaz.

In accordance with the Law on the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, the compensation for natural gas consumption in January 2023 was calculated for household consumers in the number of 603,470 personal accounts in the amount of 563.1 million lei (over 28 million euros ). Additionally, for household consumers from tenants' associations in a total number of 11,777 places of consumption, the volume of calculated compensations was 9.9 million lei, depending on the energy vulnerability category assigned.

At the same time, according to the Instruction of the Commission for Emergency Situations of January 31, 2023, non-household consumers  - 7,542 were calculated the compensation for the consumption of natural gas in this January of 24.8 million lei.

273 consumption units were disconnected from the natural gas distribution network, the debts of their owners being around 2.4 million lei. At the same time, the condition of preventive payment was applied to 130 consumers, as a consequence of the previous suspension of the supply of natural gas for non-payment within the term of the counter value of the consumed natural gas.

According to Moldovagaz data, the payment level for natural gas consumption on January 31, 2023 was 14.982 billion lei, or 97.9% of the volume supplied during the past year. The gas consumed in January is to be paid for this February.
