Moldovan president paid tribute to countrymen passed in Afghanistan war

Chisinau, February 15 /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu today commemorated our compatriots who fell in Afghanistan and paid tribute to war veterans, the presidential press service has reported.
"Today we mark 34 years since the end of the war in Afghanistan. Over 12,500 Moldovans were sent to fight in this war, giving their youth, health and life for it," said Maia Sandu.
The head of state also said that three hundred and one Moldovans died, and another 700 were injured, in the mountains of Central Asia.
"Eternal remembrance of the fallen! We bow to those who have returned from the front and built a life at home. For them, for their offspring, life takes priority. Just as, for Ukrainians, life in freedom takes priority now - the lesson we are learning this year, with war on our doorstep. We are obliged to preserve peace and freedom in our country", said Maia Sandu.
