Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ - The National Public Health Agency (ANSP) today informed that it had made a new sequencing of biological samples for monitoring the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in Moldova and the sub-line XBB.1.5 (unofficially called Kraken) was confirmed in 11 samples.
According to ANSP, the results of the reaction carried out today confirmed the circulation of sub-lines belonging to the Omicron variant in all 16 samples subjected to sequencing. For the moment, the sub-line XBB.1.5 is the most contagious one.
The samples were selected from various regions of Moldova (Chisinau, districts of Cimislia, Floresti and Tiraspol), from rural and urban environment and confirmed with molecular biology techniques (rRT-PCR). In the samples selected, the Omicron variant was confirmed in five men and 11 women.
Data by the World Health Organization shows that the sub-line XBB.1.5 of SARS-CoV-2 is dominant in Europe.
