Ukrainian refugee crisis reflected in MOLDPRES images

Chisinau, 23 Feb. /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova is one of the countries that received the largest number of Ukrainian refugees who fled the war in the neighboring state. In the first days after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, kilometer-long queues formed at the state border crossing points. The fear, despair and hopes of Ukrainian refugees who sought salvation in our country were captured by MOLDPRES reporters.

Even in the first hours after the beginning of the war, about 20 thousand citizens of Ukraine entered Moldova. Arriving in our country, the refugees were accommodated both in spaces specially arranged by the authorities, and in the houses of several Moldovans who were willing to host refugees of Ukraine.

"The Republic of Moldova is a small country with limited resources, which has done for refugees what larger countries could not do." This is how our country was characterized by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

Since the beginning of the war, about 1 million Ukrainian citizens entered the Republic of Moldova, and over 100 thousand of them still remain in our country.

Today we mark one year since the war in Ukraine started.
