Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - Interventional cardiologists of the Cardiology Institute have carried out the first interventions of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) this year and as a result, four patients with severe heart disease were treated.
According to the Health Ministry, the patients recovered quickly and were discharged from hospital three days after the intervention.
By enforcing the minimally invasive cardiac surgery, patients diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis were treated. Following interventions, the blood flow was reestablished, which had been earlier reduced because of the narrowed aortic valve. Thus, the patients no longer had serious symptoms and were saved from the evolution of the heart disease in the terminal phase.
Due to the TAVR innovative procedure, people of old age with various diseases were able to benefit from treatment, for whom the carrying out of the open-heart surgery is contra-indicated, as it poses high risk of complications.
Starting from 2019 so far, physicians from the Cardiology Institute have carried out 55 TAVR interventions, of which most ones, 25, in 2022. These operations are free of charge for the insured people, as the expenses are covered by the National Health Insurances Company.
