Moldovan peacekeepers start mission in Lebanon

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - The servicemen from the first National Army’s contingent, detached on mission to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), have started their mission in Lebanon, the Defence Ministry said.
According to the quotes source, during a transfer of authority ceremony, held at the multinational base, Sector West HQ UNP 2-3, from Shama settlement, they took over the powers of the Armenian peacekeepers, who were members of the Italian contingent.
In the presence of the commander of Sector West, Roberto Vergori, as well as military from Italy, Armenia, and Moldova, the commander of UNIFIL-1, Nicolae Tinevschi, took over the UN flag and the powers of the office.
UNIFIL is the first UN mission, to which Moldova detached a contingent made up of 32 professional servicemen. They arrived in Lebanon on 16 February 2023.
