Moldovan deputy PM has meeting with U.S. Ambassador to OSCE

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian today had a meeting with Ambassador of the United States to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Michael Carpenter. The American official was accompanied by Ambassador of the USA to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
The key subject of the discussions was the regional security situation, in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The officials paid special attention to the current dynamic of the Chisinau-Tiraspol interaction, positive measures carried out by the constitutional authorities in relation with the residents from the two banks of Dniester.
Deputy PM Oleg Serebrian stressed that the goals of the policies of Moldova’s reintegration remained focused on the peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the conflict, by providing every needed assistance to Moldova’s citizens on the left bank of Dniester and Bender city, with the preservation of the European integration perspective.
Oleg Serebrian noted that both the policies of Moldova’s reintegration and the agreed upon mechanisms in negotiations must lead to the peaceful and final settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, with the region’s demilitarization, re-establishment of the control on behalf of the constitutional authorities and finishing of the structural reforms all over the country.
As for the amendments recently made as to the incrimination of separatism in Moldova’s legislation, Serebrian emphasized that they would not affect the process of negotiations and the honest-minded people, but were meant to prevent and combat the threats to the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
