External evaluation mechanism of judges, candidates for position of CSJ judge proposed by Government to Parliament

Chisinau, March 7. /MOLDPRES/- In order to ensure the integrity of the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and increase society's confidence in its activity, the government today approved the draft Law on external evaluation of judges and candidates for the position of judge of the CSJ, set up by the Ministry of Justice, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The document regulates the process and criteria for assessing the integrity of CSJ judges, the structure and way of organizing the activity of the Evaluation Commission, the effects of promotion and non-promotion of the evaluation. The integrity assessment exercise is proposed to be exceptional, unique and limited in time, carried out to verify the ethical and financial integrity of both judges and candidates for the position of judge.
If the integrity assessment is not promoted, the judge will be released, with the prohibition of the right to exercise this position or another position of public dignity for 7 years and the right to the single severance allowance. Also, judges who did not pass the evaluation will be deprived of the right to the special pension, while maintaining the general pension for the age limit.
The evaluation commission will complete the process of verifying the integrity of judges and candidates for the positions of CSJ judges within 6 months from the start of the evaluation procedure, so that in the near future the new CSJ will be constituted in full composition.
